Kanye isΒ renown for Tweets that get him into trouble, that much is pretty much standard knowledge at this point. This time, a Tweet has actually gotten him sued by a fan that is also suing TIDAL. The claim comes as Yeezy's album 'The Life Of Pablo'Β was pronounced a TIDAL exclusive by Ye, which turned out not to be the case.Β
Kanye Tweeted that "['The Life Of Pablo'] will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for saleβ¦You can only get it onΒ TIDAL.β It was on both Apple Music and Spotify 6 weeks later.Β
Now, a judge has ruled that Kanye and TIDAL must face a lawsuit, filed by fan Justin Baker-Rhett. The lawsuit was foughtΒ in a motion to dismiss the claims, arguing thatΒ Β 'The Life of Pablo'Β had been βupdated and remixed numerous times, with different vocals, lyrics, and arrangements,β so the album was technically not the same album provided on other streaming sites.
Pitchfork reported that U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Woods ruled, βMr. Westβs argument is tenuous, and certainly does not pass muster in the context of a motion to dismissβ allowing the case to go ahead."
Justin's attorney said: βWe fully support the right of artists to express themselves freely and creatively, however, creative freedom is not a license to mislead the public. We believe that we will be able to prove to a jury that Mr. West and TIDAL tricked millions of people into subscribing to their services and that they will ultimately be held accountable for what they did.β
