Considering the new animated 'Spider-Man' instalment is sitting at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes andΒ 87% on Metacritic at theΒ time of writing, my expectations for this film were quite high.Β As Vox points out, since 2002 Sony has released six differentΒ Spider-ManΒ movies with 3 different Peter Parkers, which means this animated Miles Morales has some big boots (or Jordans) to fill. Did he do it?

This movie is an adrenaline-filled, action-packed, visually stunning, funny, clever and engaging masterpiece of an action film that injects some much-needed life into the genre of superhero films that have oversaturated theΒ industry for 10 years now. We needed a brand new hero and in Miles, we got that and then some.Β Β
The PlotΒ
It's clever. It's ridiculously funny. It'sΒ not afraid to make fun of itself or the franchise of Spider-Man as a whole. It'sΒ just downright excellent. Miles Morales, the first black Spider-Man ever, opens up a portal to find alternate reality Spider-Mans and fights a supervillain and falls in love. The classic coming-of-age story should feel heavy, but it doesn't. It's as wild as the comics were and an inspiring, wholesome, relevant and engaging story.Β
The Animation
The world of this Spider-Man is gorgeously realised, bathed in adrenaline and creativity that boldly defines it as like nothing you've ever seen. The bright, bold colours and the use of the cityscape screams a modern elegance we haven't seen in animated filmmaking ever. It isn't a cheap version of the comics, it is a masterpiece in its own right.Β

The Music
One of the biggest drawcards to the film is without a doubt the music. Check out the whole playlist here, but rest assured that it is full of some of the biggest names in hip-hop right now, which means the soundtrack is just as energetic as the film itself.Β
Final Thoughts
Without a doubt, 'Into The Spider-Verse' is one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made. If you were in doubt about seeing this - do it. It's one to remember.Β
